Evolution and Behaviour

Cards (3)

  • Why has the giraffe's neck adapted physically over time?
Their ancestors found long necks were advantageous to survival, and produced offspring which continued to expand on and take advantage of this trait. They too were better at reaching for food.
  • This idea is based around adaptiveness.
The evolution of human behaviour is thought to develop in the same way as the physical characteristics of humans. This process happens naturally, no one decides. The selection occurs because the trait is advantageous. This means the person possessing that trait is more likely to survive, reproduce and pass on these traits to their offspring.
  • Human behaviours that are advantageous to survival?
    • Aggression
    • Memory
    • Attachment to primary caregivers
