      Biological status of person as male or female
      Is determined by the 23rd pair of chromosomes - XX the females XY the males.
      Nature - sex is innate and biologically determined, it is fixed and can not be changed.

      Reproductive organs, body shape, and, hair growth.
    • Gender
      Persons psychosocial status as masc or fem
      Includes attitudes roles and behaviours we associate with being a man and being a woman.
      Influenced by social norms
      And cultural expectations
      Nurture - gender is at least partly environmentally determined - ins fluid and open to change.
      Assigned - is a social construct rather than biological fact
    • How can a person become more masc or fem
      It depends on social context and
      And the norms and expectations associated with it.
    • Gender dysphoria -

      When a persons biologically prescribed sex does not reflect way they feel inside - the gender they identify themselves as being

      May choose to have gender reassignment surgery - to bring their sexual identity in line w their gender identity.
    • Why may ppl with gender dysphoria choose to have gender reassignment surgery -
      To bring their sexual identity
      In line with their gender identity.
    • Sex-Role stereotypes -

      A set of shared expectations ppl within society/culture hold ab what is acceptable and / or usual behaviour for men and women
      Transmitted through society
      And reinforced through the agencies of socialisation.
      These firm sexist assumptions - women are too emotional to be leaders.
