what is a ph scale
it is the measurement of a substance's acidity and can be displayed as colours and ph number
what is the ph number
the numbers coordinate to the levels of acidity
how strong is the acidity of ph number 1
it is the strongest acid

neutral (neither acid or alkali)

it is a strongest alkali
how can we test the ph level of a substance
we use a liquid indictor or a paper one, we add it to the substance, stir and the colour that appears is then compared to the ph scale (e.g. if its purplely we can assume it is a strong alkali)
what are the types of indicators
single indicators and universal indicators
what is a single indicator
it means they give a different colour for acids and alkalis but they dont tell us how strong the acid or alkali is
what is a universal indicator
made from a mixture of different indicators and gives a range of colours depening on the strength of the acid or alkali (can tell the strength)
the ph scale:
examples of strong acids
ethanoic, lemon juice, vinegar
examples of weak acids
bath foam, acid rain, banana, milk
what colour are acids in universal indicator
red
what colour are alkalis in universal indicator 
blue
what are examples of single indicators
litmus and methyl orange
