  • government responses have been effective because - falls in knife crime.
Scotland used to have a reputation as the knife crime capital of Europe but in recent years the rate of knife related crime as a result of campaigns like No Knives Better has fallen and many other cities and countries have started to look at how Scotland managed this due to campaigns like No Knives Better Lives showing its success. For example, between 2011-2016 no one under 20 died in an incident involving a knife in Glasgow.
  • governments responses are effective because - fewer drunk offenders
The Scottish Government have introduced stricter alcohol laws such as reducing the drink driving limit and Minimum Unit Pricing. This has been effective as there has been fewer road traffic accidents, deaths and injuries. For example, the Scottish government won an award for its efforts to reduce alcohol harm
  • governments responses are effective because - murder rates have decreased
A final reason the government has been effective in tackling crime is because murder rates have decreased. The Scottish Government introduced some world leading changes such as the Violence Reduction Unit. This has been effective as the VRU is designed to treat crime like a disease and so deal with the cause of crime rather than wait for crimes to happen. For example, Scotland’s murder rate has fallen to its lowest level since modern records began, according to Police Scotland.
