    One reason the government has been ineffective in tackling crime is because knife crime in Scotland still continues. Despite some success there continues to be examples of knives being used in Scotland to commit horrible and sometimes fatal crimes which suggests the government isn’t doing enough. For example. There has been major increases in knife crime seen in Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Glasgow.

    Despite some reductions in the amount people drink in Scotland there continues to be a very large amount of crime that is committed by offenders who are under the influence. For example, around half of violent crimes in Scotland are committed under theinfluence of alcohol.

    Though there is an overall fall in violent crime in the last decade, there continues to be very high profile examples of violent crime in Scotland and there has been increased in recent years. For example, between 2020-21 and 2021-22, the number of Non-sexual crimes of violence recorded by the police in Scotland increased by 12%
