  • delegated legislation - law made by some person or body other than parliament but with authority of parliament

    reason for this - legislative process is lengthy + parliament doesn't have time - to go through it

    parliaments authority - to make delegated legislation - laid down in the 'parent' act - known as the enabling act

    enabling act creates a framework of the law and then delegates powers to other to make detailed law in the area.
  • three types of delegated legislation:
    1. by - laws - made by local authority
    2. statutory interpretation - made by government ministers
    3. orders in council - made by the kind and privy council
