    • One form of delegated legislation are statutory instruments made by ministers of the relevant government department who are given permission on behalf of parliament to make law for instances the secretary state for education can make a piece of law in form of a statutory instrument to build a new school providing their is a act which gives him such power
    • statutory instruments are used to update law which is quicker than amending an act and can be made very quickly even overnight for example if an amount of fine needs to be changed for a criminal offence this can be done by statutory instruments the road traffic act also permits the transport minister to make law relating to road safety this was done when the transport minister banned mobile phones whilst driving
