Antibodies

Cards (5)

  • What’s a hybridoma?

a fused cell that can be used to produce a specific antibody indefinitely & multiply indefinitely
  • hybrids technique with mouse:
    1. Inject mouse with specific antigen to stimulate lymphocytes to make a specific antibody
    2. Lymphocytes are collected from the mouse and then are combined with a particular kind of tumour cell
    3. This makes hybridoma which can divide by mitosis and make antibodies
  • Monoclonal antibodies uses:
    Pregnancy test kit
    Diagnostic tools for AIDS
    Industrial production of interferon
  • If you’re pregnant and you are on the stick ( monoclonal antibodies):
the hormone binds to the antibodies on the blue beads
The urine moves up the stick, carrying the hormone and the beads
The beads and the hormone binds to the antibodies on the strip, turning it blue
  • If you’re not pregnant and you wee on the stick ( monoclonal antibodies)
The urine moves up the stick carrying the blue beads
There’s nothing to stick to the blue brads onto the test strip so it doesn’t go blue
