Fertilisation

• during sexual reproduction the male and female gametes join together
• fertilisation restores the normal number of chromosomes in the gametes
• after fertilisation the new cell divides by mitosis which produces a clump of identical cells
• once it is an embryo as it develops the cells differentiate forming different cell types
