Charlotte Lucas encourages Collins to go into the garden as she does not want to be around him. She is trying to convince herself that she is happy.

Charlotte is not completely happy being married to Mr Collins - a consequence of her pragmatic nature. She did only ask for a ‘comfortable home’ which she does like, but she evidently does not care for Mr Collins.

He hides his affection for Mrs Bennet through insults and dry humour - a more harmless form of deception presented in the novel.
Mr Bennet - Refers to Mrs Bennet‘s nerves as his ‘old friends.’
Shows his sarcastic and acerbic attitude around Mrs Bennet’s hypochondriac nature.
