    • Many were run by monks and nuns
    • Others were run by charities
    • No physicians would be in the hospitals

    • At university – would study for around 7-10 years
    • Used books – mainly Galen
    • Training controlled by the Church
    • Human dissection was banned by the Church

    > Cause- Religious, position of the planets, miasma
    > Treatment – Confession of sins, bleeding and purging. Things to ward off bad air – lighting fires, herbs etc.
    > Prevention – Prayer/pilgrimage, carrying sweet herbs, quarantine of those infected and their families
