The Reflex arc

• The function of neurons

  • These are how the brain communicates with itself and with other areas of the body
  • These neurons transmit electrical messages within the brain and out into the rest of the body
  • they appear as 3 types of neuron the Sensory, Relay,Motor
• How do neurons work

  1. Firstly the dendrites recieve an electrical signal from anothert cell
  2. then the dendrites pass this signal down towards the cell body , which then passes it down the length of the axon
  3. The electrical impulses terminates at the axon terminal where it triggers the release of neurotransitters from pre-synaptic membrane
  4. The neurotransmitterd are taken up by neighbouring neurons and the whole process happens again
• Sensory neuron 


  Respond to incominh information from any of your senses
• Relay neuron 


  Connects sensory neurons to motor neurons, allows information to travell between sensory neurons and motor neurons quickly
• Motor Neuron

  Once the brain had processed the information it sends a message back to the body using a motor neuron
