  Two groups: introverts and extroverts.

  • asked to listen to music while completing a paired-associate learning task.
  • assigned to one of three groups:

  1. allowed to choose the volume of music playing while they completed the task
  2. played a volume of music generally selected by introverts – i.e., relatively low intensity
  3. played a volume of music generally selected by extraverts – i.e., relatively high intensity.

  • two different outcome measures:

  (1)participants pulse rate as an indication of arousal and

  (2)participants performance on the task.
