  • Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory - BAS
    • based on a model of appetitive motivation - an individual's disposition to pursue and achieve goals.
    • aroused when eceives cues corresponding to rewards and controls actions not related to punishment, but regulating approach type behaviours.
    • Individuals with highly active BAS → higher levels +ve emotions (elation, happiness, hope) in response to environmental cues consistent with non-punishment and reward and goal-achievement.
    • Individuals engage in goal-directed efforts and experience these +ve emotions when exposed to impending reward.
  • Flight Fight Fear System
    • activated when threat is detected
    • responsible for mediating reactions to all aversive stimuli. It will drive defensive avoidance
    • responsible for avoidance and escape behaviours.
    • associated with fear
