• 1. Set up equipment as shown in the diagram.
  2. Switch on the signal generator and vibration generator so the string vibrates up and down and move the wooden bridge until a clear wave pattern is formed between the wooden bridge and the vibration generator.
• Frequency

  Record the frequency of the wave from the signal generator
• Wavelength

  Use a meter ruler to measure the distance between the wooden bridge and the vibration generator.

  Count the number of loops in the wave pattern between the wooden bridge and the signal generator.

  To determine the wavelength, divide the distance measured by the number of waves counted.
• Velocity

  Determine a mean value of frequency and a mean value of wavelength.

  wave speed = frequency x wavelength.
