Krebs cycle

Cards (2)

  • Where does the Krebs cycle happen?
    Mitochrondrial matrix
  • Describe the Krebs cycle
    • Acetyl fragment from Acetyl CoA combines with oxalacetate to form citrate. CoA detaches
    • Series of redox reactions: Citrate is oxidised and decarboxylated to form a 5 carbon intermediate. The 5 carbon intermediate is decarboxylated and oxidised to form oxalacetate
    • Decarboxylation- decarboxylase removes carbon, produces 2 CO2
    • Oxidisation- Dehydrogenase removes hydrogen, used to produce 2 FADH, 6 NADH.
