Harlow reared 16 baby monkeys with 2 wire models in their cage
One wire model was covered in cloth which symbolised comfort
One wire model had no cloth nut a bottle of milk which symbolised nourishment and food
Harlow observed the monkeys basic behaviours in the cages with the wire models without as a baseline
Harlow would introduce a ' Diabolical Machine ' in order to scare the monkey's and produce a fear response
This ' Diabolical Machine ' had features like flailing ' limbs ' and loud noises to scare the baby monkeys
Harlow would then observe the behaviour that the monkey's exhibited when met with this machine
After all of this had been done , the monkeys would then be put into a social setting and Harlow would observe their behaviours in relation to normal monkeys
