speciation

Cards (3)

    • speciation is when phenotype of organisms change to point of new species being formed
    • happens when populations of species change enough to not be able to breed to produce fertile offspring
    1. isolation of different species
    2. habitat variation between populations
    3. genetic variation in each population
    4. better adapted organisms survive and pass on favourable alleles to offspring
    5. eventually, organisms cannot produce fertile offspring with other populations
    6. so, seperated species
  • Wallace:
    • provided evidence for theory of evolution
    • waning colours used by species to deter predators
    • waning colours was example of beneficial characteristic that had evolved
