A vaccination contains a small amount of dead or inactive pathogens. These make someone immune to a particular disease.
Herd immunity
is where a
large number
of people in the population are vaccinated against a disease.
A vaccine contains a small amount of dead or inactive
pathogen
.
This stimulates white blood cells to produce antibodies.
The antibodies destroy the pathogens.
Many of these antibodies are made and 'memory cells' remember how to make them for the future.
If the same pathogen enters the body at a later date, the body reacts quickly to destroy it.
The person is now immune.
