  • Study involved 60 babies - 31 boys and 29 girls all of which were from Glasgow and majority from a skilled working class family
  • Researchers visited babies and mothers in their own homes every month for the first year and again at 18 months
  • Researchers asked the mothers questions about the kind of protest their babies showed in seven everyday separation
    For example , adult leaving the room ( separation anxiety )
  • Researchers also assessed stranger anxiety - babies' anxiety response to unfamiliar people
  • Quantities of stranger anxiety and separation anxiety were designed to measure the babies' attachment
