  • Insecure Avoidant Attachment -
    Explore freely but do not show secure base behaviour or seek proximity
    Little or no separation or stranger anxiety
    Make little effort to make contact when the caregiver returns and may even avoid contact
    22% of British babies defined as Insecure Avoidant
  • Secure Attachment Style -
    Exploration and secure base behaviour
    Moderate separation distress and stranger anxiety
    Require and accept comfort from caregiver upon reunion
    66% of British babies defined as secure
  • Insecure Ambivalent / Resistant Attachment Style -
    Seek greater proximity than others and so explore less ( really over the top clingy )
    Very high levels of stranger anxiety and separation distress
    Want BUT resist comfort when reunited with caregiver
    3% of British babies defined as Insecure Ambivalent
