    • Positive reinforcement - baby cries and is rewarded with food and attention therefore encouraging them to repeat. From then on the baby seeks to be with the caregiver as they are a source of reward
    • Negative reinforcement - caregiver responds to crying by giving the baby food to make them stop (reinforcement for the caregiver)

    • Food is the reason the baby’s behaviour is driven in the way that it is
    • The main thing they want is food
  • Secondary drive - caregiver
    • The caregiver is associated with being able to take away the infants discomfort and reward them because they supply the food
