  • 14 thieves (32%) were diagnosed with affectionless psychopathy; none in the control group had this condition.
• • 86% of the affectionless psychopaths had experienced prolonged maternal separation before age 5.
• • Only 2 control group participants experienced prolonged separation.
• more than half of the juvenile thieves had been separated from their mothers for longer than six months during their first five years. In the control group only two had had such a separation. 
• only 17% of the thieves not diagnosed with affectionless psychopathy had maternal seprivation
