A clear, precise, testable statement that is written at the beginning of an investigation
Alternative hypothesis
States a relationship (correlation or difference) between variables
Variables
Something that can vary and change within an investigation
Null hypothesis
States no relationship (correlation or difference) between variables
Independent variables
The variable that is changed by the experimenter
Dependent variables
The variable that is measured in the experiment
Operationalised variable
Variables need to be defined as clearly as possible. The process of making the variables clear and defined is know as operationalisation
Extraneous variable
Any variable apart from the IV that could affect the DV. If extraneous variables are not collected the researcher cannot be sure of which variables caused the changes in the DV.
