  Observation taking place in a controlled setting, usually behind a one way mirror so they cannot be seen. 
• Strength

  Less risk of extraneous variables affecting the behaviour as it is in a controlled environment
• Limitation

  Setting is artificial and therefore the results may lack ecological validity
