Specialised cells & Differentiation

Cards (6)

  • Specialised cell
Cell that is adapted to perform a particular function
  • What does differentiation mean
Process by which cells b come specialised
  • Why is differentiation important
Allows the production of different types of cells, which can them form viral parts of the body
  • Sperm cells role
To deliver genetic material to an egg cell, and fertilise it
  • Sperm cell adaptations
Half as much genetic material so when it forms with an egg it will have the normal amount
    Lots of mitochondria for movement
Has a flagellum so it can swim to reach the egg
    Streamlined to make swimming easier
Has digestive enzymes in its her so it can break through the wall of the egg
  • Root hair cell
Has large surface area to absorb water and mineral ions
Has lots of mitochondria to provide energy for active transport
Has lots of protein channels to transport water and mineral ions into cell
