Locus of control

Cards (4)

  • Supporting evidence
Avtgis (1998)- found after doing a meta-analysis that there was a correlation between internal locus of control and obeying.
  • Supporting evidence
Holland (1967)- repeated Milgram's study and found participants with an internal locus of control were more likely to obey and people with external locus of control's were less likely to obey.
However, the percentages of this research show that it cannot just be locus of control that impacted how people obey.
  • Contradictory evidence
Twenge (2004)- anlaysed data over a 40 year period and found that there is no longer a correlation between having an internal LOC and resisting social influence. Lacks temporal validity.
