JohnsonandScott (1976)- found that between ppts hearing crashing and seeing a man run out with a pen and a man run out with a bloody knife, more ppts who saw the man with the pen were able to correctly identify the man.
Limitation of Johnson and Scott’s evidence
Ppts may have been surprised and not anxious.
Contradictory evidence
Pickrel (1998)- found that EWT was less accurate in unusual conditions.
Supporting evidence
Christianson and Hubinette (1993)- found that people who faced more anxiety (threatened by robbers) showed more accurate recall compared to those who witnessed the crime but were not threatened by the robbers.
Limitation for Christianson and Hubinette
There study occurred a few months after the crime meaning the other factors may have influenced their recall of the crime.
