  • Hazan and Shaver conducted a study called the “Love Quiz” using a questionnaire published in a newspaper called Rocky Mountain News.
  • The questionnaire contained two main sections: one assessing respondent’s current attachment style in relationships, and the other asking about their childhood experiences with their parents, which were designed to identify their childhood attachment style. The quiz was distributed to readers who voluntarily responded, with a total of 620 participants (415 women and 205 men).
  • The researchers used the responses to classify participants into one of the three attachment categories (secure, insecure-avoidant, or insecure-resistant). They also asked respondents about their relationship experiences, such as the nature of their romantic relationships, feelings towards intimacy, and their perceptions of love.
