  • Social science: any branch of academic study or science that deals with human behavior in its social and cultural aspects. Usually included within the social sciences are cultural (or social) anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, and economics. (Greenfeld & Nisbet,, 2020)
  • Anthropology: is the scientific and humanistic study of human beings. It encompasses the evolutionary history of humanity, physical variation among humans, the study of past societies, and the comparative study of current-day human societies and cultures.
  • Anthropology:
    • describe, analyze, and explain different cultures
    • show how groups live in different physical, economic, and social environments
    • show how their members give meaning to their lives.
    • attempts to comprehend the entire human experience
  • Sociology : the scientific study of human society and social interactions. main goal is to understand social situations and look for repeating patterns in society.The main focus of sociology is the group, not the individual. Sociologists attempt to understand the forces that operate throughout society-forces that mold individuals, shape their behavior, and, thus, determine social events.
  • Political science: is an academic discipline that seeks to study politics scientifically and to address empirical (factual) and normative (ethical) questions about politics.
    • Why do people vote as they do?
    • Why are some people conservative and others not?
    • Does money buy elections?The subject matter of politics is varied and complex, and political science is no less so.
  • WHY STUDY THE THREE?
    • The three fields are essential to understanding societal problems.
    • While they may be independent from each other, it is one way of knowing that social issues cannot be seen in one angle alone.
    • It promotes a holistic approach to understanding problems in order to find holistic and realistic solutions as well.
