• Scientific methods

  Research into the physical responses to stress can be said to be scientific as the measures are usually objective.

  Increases the validity.
• Ignores gender bias

  Proposed as a universal stress response. However, evidence was based on findings mostly from males, especially male rats. Other theories suggest females show a ‘tend and befriend’ response- focus energy on caring for their offspring and forming defensive networks. This means Fight or flight responses underestimates the differences between the sexes.
• Reductionist idea

  The fight or flight response reduces/narrows complex human cognitive processes and behaviour down to biological processes and then down to levels of hormones.
