  • whats a strength of this study
    important implications
this study has improved the living standards for children in orphanges.
babies are now given adoptive parents soon after birth.
therefore we can see this improves lives for children.
  • whats a weakness of this study
    socially sensitive.
makes orphans appear inferior, could limit their opportunities in terms of jobs if we are suggesting they have lower IQ.
they also may get treated differently by adopted parents and teachers etc.
therefore this can lead to self fufilling prophecy.
  • What's another weakness of this study
    lack of adult data.
the long term effects are not yet clear.
the studies we've looked into have followed up on fostered and adopted orphans into their mid teens and found some lasting effects on early expeience.
Therefore because its too soon to to say whether children suffered fom short term/ long term effects it may not be 100% true.
  • whats the final weakness of this study
    self report techniques.
interviews are often used to gather data.
demand characteristics may be present which lowers validity of the data.
therefore, strange situation used has reduced validity.
