• Strengths

  • GREEN - states that all mammals have the same brain structure (including monkeys) and the only differences are size and the number of connections - humans and animals are similar
  • PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS - Harlow's research has had profound implications for childcare and the arrangement of zoos
• Weaknesses

  • EXTRAPOLATION - results cannot be generalised to humans - questionable whether the findings of animals can be extrapolated to complex human behaviours, low ecological validity
  • UNETHICAL - the use of animals in research can be questioned on ethical grounds - the animals have a right to not be harmed/researched , long-term psychological harm was inflicted onto them
