  • e.g reaction of bromine and ethene
• bromine and ethene:

  • react to form diobromoethane
  • addition of bromine to double bond can be used to test for alkenes
  • orange bromine water added to alkane, no reaction and will stay orange
  • bromine water added to alkene, bromine add across double bond, colourless solution
