    • self report technique
      any method in which a person is asked to state or explain their own feelings related to a given topic
    • questionnaire
      a set of written questions used to assess a person's thoughts or experiences
    • interview
      live encounter where one person asks a set of questions to assess a persons thoughts and experiences
    • three types of interviews:
      1. structured- pre-determined set of questions asked in a fixed order
      2. unstructured- no set questions, 'free-flowing' conversation
      3. semi-structured- a list of questions that have been worked out in advance but interviewers are also free to ask follow up questions
    • strengths of questionnaires:
      1. cost effective-gathers large amounts of data quickly
      2. can be completed without the researcher present- reduces effort involved
      3. data produced is fairly straight forward to analyse
