Adaptations

• Animals in the cold have:

  • small ears to reduce heat loss and surface area
  • white fur to camouflage
  • thick fur and fat to insulate
  • large feet for better grip
• Animals in hot, dry environments have:

  • thin fur in body to allow heat loss but thick fur in head to insulate against heat from sun
  • ability to tolerate high body temperatures and low water content
  • hump of fat to act as a food store without insulation
