Adrenaline binds to a transmembrane protein receptor on a liver cell cause the protein to change shape, leading to the activation of adenyl cyclase enzyme which converts ATP to cyclic AMP. This acts as a second messenger that binds to a kinase enzyme, which catalyses the conversion of glycogen to glucose.
