  place slide onto the stage and use clips to hold in place

  select the lowest power objective lens so it almost touches the microscope side by slowly turning. the coarse focussing dial look at the microscope from the side whilst adjusting the position of the objective lens

  when objective lens almost touches slide stop turning dial

  look down through eyepiece

  slowly turn the coarse focussing dial until cells come into focus

  use fine focussing dial to bring the cells into a clear focus
