  • Why did Karl Barth reject the liberal approach?
    He said that the Bible passes judgement on human reason, not the other way round. The Bible should be allowed to challenge secular values, rather than having its interpretation driven by them. This is the basis of the way many Conservative Evangelical Christians interpret the Bible
  • Why do fundamentalist reject anything but a literalist interpretation of the Bible?
    They believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God, so the role and status of women in the Church is not a matter for debate; it is as set out in 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy. This would be applied to theological decisions, not only understanding the role of women
