  • Add liquid sample to boiling tube
  • add 10 drops of benedict's solution
  • place in a boiling water bath for 3-5 mins

  • boil in dilute HCl acid - hydrolyse
  • neutralise solution by adding sodium carbonate
  • repeat benedicts test
• What result will a negative result to the benedict's tests give?

  blue

• What is the emulsion test?

  • place sample in boiling tube and add ethanol
  • shake and leave for 2-3 mins
• What is a positive result for the emulsion test?

  milky layer forms
• What is the biuret test for proteins?

  • grind sample and add water and biuret
  • shake and leave for 5 mins
• What is a positive result for biuret test?

  violet
