speed of wave ripples

• step 1

  use a signal generator attached to the dipper of a ripple tank to create water waves at a set frequency
• step 2

  dim the lights and turn on the lamp

  should see the wave crests as shadows on the screen below the tank
• step 3

  distance between each shadow line is equal to one wavelength

  measure the distance between shadow lines that are 10 wavelengths apart then divide this by 10 to find the average wavelength
• step 4

  speed = frequency x wavelength
