active transport

  • active - requires energy from respiration
• active transport in root hairs:

  • take up water and mineral ions
  • mineral ions are usually in higher concentrations in the cells
  • energy from respiration is used to take up mineral ions
• active transport in the gut:

  • substances such as glucose and amino acids have to move from the gut to the bloodstream
  • can be lower concentration of sugar in the gut than blood
  • active transport happens, which needs energy from respiration to move the sugar to the blood against its concentration gradient
