• thieves graded in terms of severity:

  • grade 4 - 22 thieves, stole for long time, over 3 yrs
  • grade 1 - 4 thieves, only 1 theft
• 44 non-thieves similar in age, IQ & sex, all emotionally disturbed though
• 88 mother interviewed to assess case history of children
