  opportunity sampling = partic who were readily available and willing to take part
• how is the procedure split?

  into two parts:

  1. initial examination
  2. therapy
• initial examination

  • on arrival to clinic, each child given mental test by psychologist = assess intelligence (using Binet scale)
  • same psychologist also noted emotional attitude of kid
  • same time, social worker interviewed child's mother & recorded preliminary details of child's early psychiatric history
• therapy

  • many of children continued to meet psychiatrist weekly for 6 months or more
  • mothers talked over their problems with social worker
  • meeting & discussion enabled detailed case study to be recorded, and psychiatrist to diagnose children's emotional problems
