plant tissues

Cards (4)

  • epidermal tissue:
    • covers the whole plant
    • covered with a waxy cuticle - prevents water from moving out
    • helps reduce water loss by evaporation
  • palisade mesophyll tissue:
    • underneath epidermal tissue
    • alot of chloroplast for photosynthesis
    • positioned on the top of the leaf - receive alot of light
  • spongy mesophyll tissue:
    • underneath palisade mesophyll
    • has alot of air spaces
    • allows gases to diffuse in and out of cells
  • xylem:
    • found in roots, stems, and leaves
    • made of dead cells joined together
    • strengthened with lignin - makes it waterproof
    • has some holes along the tube called bordered pits - mineral ions go to specific places
    • allows movement of water and mineral ions from the roots to the stem to the leaves
    • when water goes to the leaves it transpires
