social learning theory

    Cards (11)

    • Social learning theory- states that learning occurs by the observation and imitation of others behaviours
    • modelling= in order for SLT to take place someone must carry out the behaviour being observed e.g. parent/ teacher OR fictional character of tv show
    • identification= the extent to which the individual relates to the model who’s behaviour their observing e.g. same sex model
    • vicarious reinforcement= learning by observing the consequences of others behaviour= wether being rewarded or punished
    • role of meditational processing=
the cognitive process occur between stimulus and response to respond facilitate/ help/ support the learning process
    • 4 role of meditational processing
attention= the extent of noticing/ paying attention to behaviour
      retention= ability to remember behaviour
motor production= ability to physically perform behaviour
motivation= the will to observe + perform behaviour
    • Bandura’s Bobo Doll Study
    • what are the Ao3 for Social learning theory?
      demand characteristics
      alternative explanation
      real life applications
      Banduras study
    • weakness:
P-ignores other potential factors for explaining human behaviour
E- e.g. little reference to biological factors, consistent finding= boys> girls aggression
      E- hormone levels= testosterone
      L- question validity of SLT
    • weakness:
P- better explanations for human behaviour = learning approach=behaviourism
E- classical conditioning by pavlov=association, operant conditioning by skinner = reinforcement + punishment
E- both have real world applications e.g. economy token system
L- questions validly of SLT= better explanations for human behaviour
    • strength
P- evidence support the role of modelling
E- AKERS= probability of involvement criminal behaviour is more likely when exposed to criminal models= identify w model + expect good reward
E- principles of SLT applied to understand human behaviour inc. criminal
L- applied to real human applications e.g. criminal activity
