• Tulving had participants perform memory tasks while their brains were scanned using a PET scanner
• Semantic Memories ( memory of our knowledge of the world ) were recalled from the left prefrontal cortex
• Episodic Memories ( memories of personal events ) were recalled from the right prefrontal cortex
