• An adult displayed a facial expression at a 2 week old baby and the babies response was filmed then looked at by independent observers
• The independent observers did not see the expression on the adult and were then asked to guess what expression the adult was pulling
• Meltzoff and Moore found a significant association between the expression shown by the adult and then by the baby
