what is aversion therapy?
A form of therapy that aims to reduce or eliminate
unwanted
behaviors by associating them with
unpleasant
stimuli.
how does aversion therapy work?
patient exposed to
stimulus
while simultaneously being subjected to form of
discomfort
= cause patient to associate stimulus with unpleasant sensation
how is aversion therapy effective?
patient learnt a maladaptive response to stimulus and they need to relearn their responses to they no longer associate pleasure with it
