What does social control mean?
The means that society employs to ensure that everyone continues conforming

Where does government authority come from?

Most people actually do benefit from them - the law protects people + maintains social order
How do schools act as formal agents of control?
Have dress codes, punishment for misbehaviour etc.
How can religion act as a form of social control?
Use ideas of eternal reward/punishment so people follow a certain behaviour

The Church used to be majorly controlling but due to secularisation, its influence is waning
